Biography

Ratnamala Chatterjee, presently a Visiting Professor in the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Mumbai, India, superannuated from Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT D) in June 2024. She has been a Higher Academic Grade Professor in IIT D, Institute Chair Professor (2019- 2023), an Emeritus Professor (2023-24) & Head, Physics in the Physics Department at I.I.T D (2019-2022). A Ph.D from, I.I.T Kanpur, she was a Post-Doctoral Associate at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T), USA. Her research areas of interest are – novel functional materials including magnetic metals and alloys, ferroelectrics, multiferroics, topological semimetals, thermoelectrics and functional oxides / selenides. She has ~ 300 research publications in reputed international journals. Her work has been well cited (total citations 5159, h-index 37 and i10-index 119, including 2 citations from Linus Pauling for her work on Quasicrystals) and recognized by the researchers working in these areas. As an academician, she has been recognized with several distinctions and awards. She is in the Advisory Editorial Board of Elsevier’s Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials. She was the winner of Strategic Academic Leadership Program “Priority 2030” by the Ministry of Science & Higher Education of the Russian Science Federation 2022. A Fellow of the Asia-Pacific Association for Materials (APAM) in 2013, she won the Materials Research Society of India (MRSI) medal in 2012. She received the American Physical Society (APS) Professorship Award in 2012, was awarded the Australia International Education Foundation’s (AIEF) Fellowship in 1996 and Science &Tech. Agency (STA) awardee by Japan Research & Development Corporation in the year 1992-93. She has been an Invited / Visiting Professor in various international institutes like IMR, Tohoku, Japan, Ecole des Mines, Nancy, France, UNSW, Australia, MISIS, Russia.
